Free COVID-19 resources to support residents in aged care and their families during a COVID-19 outbreak
We know that you need to act fast to keep residents safe during COVID-19 outbreaks. At a potentially difficult time, we recommend sharing critical information with concerned residents and their families, such as:
- updates on what’s happening at the facility day to day
- the measures you are taking to keep residents safe
- the health and wellbeing of all residents
- the valuable supports that residents and families can access, especially if there’s a desire to transfer a resident to the family home.
The Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) and ADA Australia can help you support older people and their families—and give them a voice during a COVID‑19 outbreak or lockdown — with the COVID-19 Communications Toolkit. The Toolkit comes in two parts:
Resources for providers
The fact sheets share proven strategies and communication tools. Some include text you can adapt to your facility’s current situation.
Resources to keep residents and families informed
Take your pick of fact sheets, letters, posters, videos and postcards that have been specially developed to support for your residents.
About OPAN and ADA Australia
OPAN is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health. Our role is to deliver services through a network of service delivery organisations (SDOs) based in the states and territories. In Queensland, the SDO is ADA Australia. ADA Australia provides free, confidential, independent aged care advocacy and information to older people receiving Commonwealth-funded aged care services, their families and representatives.
