Statement from Consortium organisations about update to Industry Code for Visiting Residential Aged Care Homes During COVID-19
The Industry Code for Visiting Residential Aged Care Homes During COVID-19 is now in place. After its initial release, older Australians, families and representatives were encouraged to provide feedback on the Code, ahead of a review. This webinar can be watched by clicking here.
As part of this feedback process, OPAN, COTA Australia, Dementia Australia and National Seniors Australia held a public consultation webinar on 27 May 2020. We greatly appreciate all the feedback and thank everyone who participated in this. After reviewing all feedback on 29 May, it was decided that it is too early to determine how effectively the Code has been implemented. As a result, no changes are being made to the Code at this stage. Instead, a set of Q&As will be developed, which will explain the Code in further detail, and this will be communicated to providers to assist in broader and more consistent adherence to the Code.
Today, the consortium of organisations released a statement about this first review. The Code’s implementation will be continually monitored over the coming months, after which the public will be invited to provide further feedback ahead of another review.
