Centerlink representatives

You can ask someone to act for you as your authorised Centrelink representative. This means they would be able to act for you for a range of Centrelink services including for:

  • aged care fees (including subsidy and hardship applications)
  • Age Pension
  • Commonwealth Seniors Health Card
  • Disability Support Pension
  • Carer Allowance
  • Carer Payment

If you want to add, change or remove an authorised representative you can visit a Centrelink service centre or call Centrelink on 132 850.

Medicare representative

A person can act on your behalf for Medicare purposes when any of the following applies:

  • they’re your appointed Power of Attorney (POA),
  • a court or tribunal has appointed them as your guardian and administrator,
  • Medicare have accepted them as your authorised representative, and/or
  • they’re your authorised third party with Medicare.

You can call the Medicare program on 132 011 if you want to remove a Medicare representative.

NDIS nominee

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) always starts with the principle that you are able to make decisions yourself and have a right to be supported to do so. If you’re not able to make decisions, even with support, the NDIS will explore who else can make decisions and do things on your behalf. The NDIS call this representative decision-making, and they call this person a nominee.

If you want to appoint or cancel a NDIS nominee, you need to you need to contact the NDIS, your local area coordinator or planner and ask the NDIS to appoint a nominee.

Utility services authorised contacts

You can often authorise someone to act on your behalf for your utility services (e.g. phone, internet, energy (gas and electricity), and water suppliers). This is done directly with the utility service and is often known as a ‘Third Party Authority’ or ‘Authorised Contact’.

You need to contact your utility service supplier directly to find out how to appoint, change and remove utility service authorised contacts.

People you have authorised to act on your behalf with other services

You may have authorised people to act on your behalf for other services as well. For example, you may have authorised some to act on your behalf for vehicle registration purposes with the relevant state or territory body.

You need to contact the relevant service provider directly to find out how to appoint, change and remove service authorised contacts.
