About this course

This online facilitator course has been developed as part of the #ReadyToListen project. It is structured as a facilitator resource and designed for aged care educators to conduct training in their residential aged care workplace on understanding the risk and indicators of sexual assault and believing those who disclose. It also covers providing support and taking proactive steps to protect residents.

The #ReadyToListen project aims to build the skills and capacity of aged care service providers to better respond to and prevent sexual assault in residential aged care.

The Aged Care Royal Commission’s Final Report (2021) estimated there are 50 sexual assaults in residential aged care each week. Older people also experience sexual assault in their own homes. The trauma they experience is compounded by the lack of education for service providers.

Who is this training for?

Aged care educators, clinical governance or quality, risk and compliance managers in residential aged care.

How long will it take to complete?

This free, self-paced online facilitator course will take approximately 4 hours to complete. The course remains accessible upon completion, and includes guidance, practical strategies and learning activities with downloadable resources.
