OPAN’s free education and information sessions support providers to meet their obligations under the Charter of Aged Care Rights and Aged Care Quality Standards.
Topics include:
- the rights of older people and provider responsibilities
- advocacy and self-advocacy
- complaints and the Serious Incidents Response Scheme (SIRS)
- identifying and responding to abuse.
Advocates tailor these sessions to meet your specific needs. They can be delivered in community and aged care settings across Australia.

Talk to Us First
A short, self-paced training module that covers the rights of older people seeking or receiving government-funded aged care services, provider responsibilities, and the role advocates play in resolving issues and concerns.
A certificate of completion supports aged care providers and professionals to meet Aged Care Quality Standards 6, ensuring older people feel safe, encouraged, and supported to give feedback or make a complaint.

Abuse of the Older Person
Abuse of the Older Person: eLearning Program for Health and Aged Care Professionals supports the response to suspected, witnessed, or disclosed abuse of older people.
The free, self-paced training is delivered by experts and can be used to apply for continuing professional development.
Responding to and preventing sexual assault in Residential Aged Care – Facilitator course
This online facilitator course has been developed as part of the #ReadyToListen project. It is aimed at aged care educators and supports the training of residential aged care workers in understanding the risk and indicators of sexual assault and believing those who disclose.
The course includes practical strategies and learning activities with downloadable resources.
