Using antibiotics well – Do I need a drug for every bug?
Antibiotics treat a variety of bacterial infections and diseases, helping our immune systems to fight them off. However, prolonged use of antibiotics can cause side effects or become ineffective, particularly among older, and cause resistance among harmless bacteria that lead to ‘superbugs’.
In this webinar, the panel of medical experts explored antibiotics, antibiotic resistance in aged care and how older people can protect themselves.
This webinar covers:
- Explore why antibiotics are important and what conditions they do and don’t treat
- Identify common myths about antibiotics
- Discuss the impact of antibiotics on the individual and the community
- Describe what antibiotic resistance is and why it is a problem
- Identify the actions individuals can take to stay healthy and use antibiotics well
Meet the panel:
- Dr Lyn-li Lim, Consultant Infectious Diseases Physician, Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission
